Restorative Yin Yoga

"Our bodies are speaking to us all day long. They may be whispering or screaming. Today we're slowing down enough to hear what our wise bodies are communicating." -Kim

Restorative Yin is a gentle, therapeutic practice that weaves together the nurturing support of Restorative Yoga with the quiet depth of Yin Yoga. Rather than asking the body to stretch first, we begin by helping it feel safe enough to soften.

Each session begins with warm herbal oil applied through gentle, supportive massage to invite the nervous system into a state of ease. This ritual is inspired by the Ayurvedic practice of Abhyanga, where warmth, intentional touch, and presence become an invitation for the body to let go of unnecessary holding. As the body settles, we explore diaphragmatic breathing, allowing each breath to deepen our awareness and create space from within.

From this place of support, we transition into a small number of long-held, floor-based Yin postures. Rather than striving for flexibility or pushing toward an end range, we practice meeting sensation with tenderness. Props such as bolsters, blankets, blocks, straps, and pillows are thoughtfully arranged to support your unique body, allowing each posture to become a conversation rather than a challenge.

The gentle, sustained nature of the practice encourages healthy adaptation within the body's connective tissues - including fascia, tendons, ligaments, and joints- while warmth, stillness, and mindful breathing invite the nervous system toward greater regulation and ease. Many students notice that when the body no longer feels the need to protect itself, movement becomes more spacious, breath becomes more natural, and the mind begins to quiet.

Throughout the session, you will be guided to notice not only physical sensations, but also the emotions, thoughts, and patterns that surface when you slow down. There is nothing to fix and nowhere to rush. The practice is simply to listen.

Restorative Yin is especially supportive for those living with chronic stress, anxiety, burnout, nervous system dysregulation, persistent tension, or anyone longing to reconnect with themselves in a slower, more compassionate way. Every session is an invitation to receive before you give, soften before you strive, and remember that healing rarely comes from forcing. More often, it begins the moment we feel safe enough to let go.

This practice welcomes every body, regardless of age, flexibility, or experience. You are not asked to perform. You are simply invited to arrive, breathe, receive, and come home to yourself.

I integrate Restorative Yin Yoga into the Embodied Wholeness Method and you can inquire about the classes I host at studios.
